Abstract: The wind contribution to the process of vertical mixing in the near surface oceanic layers is empirically, estimated at a deep station (500 m) off Port Said, Egypt. The dimensional less parameter Ru which scales wind contribution is greatest during summer with values as high as 0.6. Calculations show that wind stress over the sea surface generally has a significant role in the dynamical process of vertical turbulent mixing except during winter.
